Strawberry Switchblade

"Its so clear that all we have now are our thoughts of yesterday" - Since Yesterday

Who?
Rose and Jill, two polka-dot covered proto goths, who for a brief period exerted a Clare Grogan like hold on the mind of the alternative nation

Essential?
Since Yesterday is a track that, experts agree, is a benchmark classic of a sort. The cover of Jolene (note-for-note repeated by Queen Adreena in 2000) was virtually a masterclass - keeping the feel of the original and adding some stuff all their own.

Popstars in Reduced Circumstances?
There's been a smattering of further projects since the end of the strawberry season - one of them has achieved some sort of mythic status amongst the truly gothy, but nothing has ever put them in a position where they'd be at risk of Chris Evan attempting to get off with them.

In a nutshell, then:
Voice of the Beehive with a hangover. Kitsch-goth.

Never mind the music, give us trivia:
The Jolene video was the first time I ever saw what a dominatrix looked like. I haven't recovered. Nor has Nick Owen, if I remember his face on TV-am correctly.
