The Mekons
"High on a hill above Bradford"
Who?
Mekons, post apocalypse punk survivors. Turned "new country" in
the 80's, then twiddles their knobs for the "Fun 90" ep in the early
90's. Now releasing a mixture of new material and career spanning compilations
on the Quarterstick label in the USA.
Essential
Sea shanties and pirate themes aside, the acclaimed album "So
Good It Hurts" includes possibly the best example of Sally Timms vocals
"Ghosts Of American Astronauts". Also check out the cowpunk album
"Fear And Whiskey".
In A Nutshell Then
Reliable marathon runners rather than successful sprinters, the band have
changed their musical direction and personnel to remain fresh sounding into
their 3rd decade.
Never Mind The Music, Give Us Trivia
Early in the 90's, singer / guitarist Jon Langford once took to the London
Marquee stage in a bright red Elvis jumpsuit.
Yes, Anna, They Are From?
Initially recorded in a home studio at Jon Langford's pad in Harehills Avenue,
Leeds. The group are now scattered to the 4 winds with the main players resident
in the USA.
