The Fat Tulips

our pop star's dead

Who?
Making Talulah Gosh look like an Oi band, The Fat Tulips released a slew of vinyl and floppy singles towards the end of the 80's.

Where did they get their crazy name?:
Fat Tulip's Garden, the kids series presented by Tony Robinson before he entered political arselicking as a career.

Yes, Anna, they came from:
Bridle Joyce, in Nottingham

Essential?
A Girl Called Suicide, which pushed the cutie songwriting envelope beyond the concept of 'the sky is pretty, my heart is blue', and Where's Clare Grogan Now? - a valid question in the period between the demise of Altered Images and her shagging Ian Beale on Eastenders

Popstars in Reduced Circumstances?
Where's the Fat Tulips now? We simply do not know. They don't tend to appear Looks Familiar, bands like this

In a nutshell, then:
Archetypal fanzine band - and we mean that as a good thing

Never mind the music, give us trivia:
They were forced to remove the bit of Clare Grogan saying "Goodnight Mr. Spaceman" from the Where's Clare Grogan by the distributors who thought that people who heard that sample might not want to go and see the film anymore. Presumably these aren't the same people who allowed clips from Gregory's Two Girls to be shown on television.
