Catherine Wheel
"it
would really make my day/ if you would just move away"
Who?
Survivors
against massive odds, strugglers against apathy, relatives of the bloke out
of Iron Maiden. Started out as shoegazers, then got murkier, grittier and
dirtier. Still the world never quite got round to noticing them, still they
didn't give up. If medals were given for persistence, that would be really
patronising and would be a bit of a mean thing to do. Still, the Wheel would
turn up and play for the ceremony, you can bet.
Essential?
I
want to touch you, and the seven minute meisterwork Black metallic - a hymn
to beauty as fragile as the concept it captures. Personally, i dont think
their recent stuff has ever recaptured their early joy, but people who like
that sort of thing point at the stuff they did following the tour with the
Smashing Pumpkins as being their best
Yes, Anna, they were from...
Norwich,
and benefitted from that city's Wilde Club in their early days
In a nutshell, then:
Shoegazers
fall in with the wrong crowd, treat effects pedals badly, make sweet flavoured
grunge
Never mind the music, give
us trivia:
That
thing about one of them being related to one of Iron Maiden
