The Auteurs

"Weren't the nineties great?"

Who?
One of the many Luke Haines projects that waves a gun in the face of casual pop. Once supported a young Suede on tour, and for a while suffered in comparison with the band - seen as a Suede that couldn't afford leather trousers; subsequently creatively out performed Brett and his gang on almost any measure.

Essential?
The track 'Unsolved Child Murder' - which we here still believe was where the Stereophonics ripped the idea for Local Boy in the Photograph from - is chilling and an excellent starting point. The sort of comeback How I Learned to Love the Bootboys album took the idea of Lawrence Felt's flawed Denim project - capturing the feelings of growing up in a time of IRA bombings and Yorkshire Ripper crimes - and made it work. But, really, anything and everything is worth playing. And, oh, yes, you'll listen...

Obscure?
On a scale of "Probe have to pretend they've heard of them" to "my dad can hum their songs", they're at "my brother sort-of0knows who they are"

Trivial details:
Luke Haines is - at time of writing - trying to organise a music strike. Because, in silence, we may hear what we miss.
